Dr. Monica M. Smith brings nearly 25 years of experience in higher education leadership, specializing in equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging. She joins the University of Richmond after serving as Associate Vice President for Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging at the Universities of Wisconsin System Administration, where she led 13 universities in advancing inclusion & belonging initiatives.
Prior to that, she was the first Vice President for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and Chief Diversity Officer at Augustana College in Illinois. Dr. Smith is also an active leader in the National Association of Diversity Officers in Higher Education (NADOHE) and participated in its inaugural cohort of senior leaders focused on inclusion and belonging in higher education.
On her role at UR:
